Have I ever told you, ever since I was a little girl I’ve adored Mary Poppins? I’ve seen the movie at least 20 times, I’ll see it 20 more. Adorable Julie and Dyck, are permanently ingrained in my childhood memories. I could sing you every note of every song. All you’d have to do is take a road trip with me, because as you know, the best place to sing show tunes is in the car.

For my 50 Birthday, Mr B and I drove all the way to Portland to see Mary Poppins on stage. A scenic 1,600 kilometers later, I was the happiest birthday girl in town. The performance was absolutely magical, Mary flies over the audience and lands on stage. I was so overjoyed, I cried on the walk back to our car. When a cyclist looked at me with concern I blubbered, “it’s OK, I just saw Mary Poppins”. I’m sure she thought I was a bit nutty.
Since my sweet Aunty Kathleen gave me birthday money for the trip, I naturally bought a souvenir at the show. My coveted umbrella doesn’t talk like Mary’s but I love it none the less.
This week, I got to thinking about my Halloween Pumpkin and what to carve on it. Should it be scary or cute? Well thanks to Mary Poppins, the beautiful memories and a little inspiration, I decided it must simply be “Practically Perfect”.
I’m glad I clicked on this post. Since there’s a comment from me from last year, I obviously read it before but it’s fun to again see the picture of the Mary Poppins umbrella that you described in your comment on my blog.

Ha Thanks Sheryl. We had lots of fun hamming it up Mime style. I think the Sherman Bros. would be super-excited to hear us still us their term after all these years! 🙂

Thanks Kathryn, we sure had fun. Just me and a gf I’ve known for a long time. Mr B declined, I think I used up all his Halloween sense of HaHa over the years. Do you get any trick-or-treaters out on the ranch?

Sadly no trick-or-treaters here, but day of the dead starts November 1st, and is a really nice macabre celebration. The closest thing we have to Halloween here (costumes and candy) is “Dia de los Locos” which is in June.. here is a link:

Day of the Dead? Reminds me of those Zombie movies..Did you ever see ‘Sean Of The Dead’? British Zombie farce that was sooooo funny. I used to work with a whole lot of guys would fit right in with “Dia de los Locos”. HA. Hope your macabre celebration isn’t tooooo scary.

Oh how dear, I love that PJ, and that’s one of my favorite parts of the movie. Who knew there were so many of us out there? Go’s to show you how many generations she’s entertained. Thank’s for the compliment, I haven’t done a pumpkin in a few years but it was just like riding a bike (or carousel horse). 😉

Thanks so much Alys. I love that you are Poppins fan too. Not everyone ‘gets’ my obsession. There’s so many good messages for adults in the movie, I still enjoy it.

It’s a classic. I wish ever generation would see it. They play it once a year at the Retro Dome. I went last year with my friend, MaryAnn and a few others. It was so much fun. We dress up in costume, and sing a long to the movie (with the lyrics at the bottom of the screen). You would love it.

You darn right, I would totally love it. That sounds like such a blast. OMG that’d be great if I could plan to visit at that time. MaryAnn, that name will forever remind me of Gilligans Island. She sounds like my kind of girl.

Dang, Sunshine…I missed your message. So sorry (it’s in my Unread File). Thanks for visiting this day and your nice compliment too. Do try and see the play if you can, it’s just too fantastic for words. There were tons of kids at the matinee we went to and they all looked like they were having sooooo much fun. I can’t believe you still have a video store…none left here, but also that they didn’t have Mary Poppins, ‘Completely Unexceptable’…I think Mary would say, with a her charming English Accent. 😉
