If you’re ever down San Diego way and feeling a little peckish, don’t hesitate to pop into the very cool, ‘Night & Day Cafe’ on Orange Avenue, Coronado Island.
They’ve been cooking for islanders since 1927. They’ll whip you up a meal on the weekend at 3am if you’re up for it. I love their vintage neon ad sign.
The best part is ‘Breakfast All Day’. I love eating a cafe breakfast, anytime, any day. It’s a pretty small place but with a big heart and vintage round stools at the counter right next to the action.
It’s fun watching them cook your order with 70’s and 80’s tunes wafting on the stereo. Let me just say, they move fast.
I know what you’re thinking, did she eat two pancakes or one? If you’re feeling lucky,
I probably won’t last that long but in the ‘good-ol-days’ we probably stopped for pizza without a second thought at those hours…..it’s nice to be young and eat what ever, when ever. x
LOL, I’m pretty sure those days are never coming back. Can you imagine, Pizza at 2am probably woofed down with a beer. I sure didn’t eat very healthy in my 20’s.
None of us did! We’re all a testament to survival of the junk food! We would go out dancing, eat breakfast at 2 and still manage to function the following day.
We could have shared this easily, but you just don’t know this when ordering. I could see a bunch of girlfriends having a night out and stopping for a late night snack…one order 3 forks. Thanks for your message, I agree entirely! 🙂
Absolutely! We used to go to a place that had cakes so big they fell off the sides of the plate. We would request one order and split the whole thing between the four kids. Every time one of them would beg for their own order, but every time there were leftovers even with splitting it! Best darn pancakes I’ve ever tasted!
Interesting that you chose a VINTAGE style restaurant. 🙂 I too love breakfast out. Most pancakes are too heavy for me so I opt for hashbrowns intead. I like the German crepe style pancake myself and found one place here in Portland to get them. Yum! Enjoy your trip and hope you are feeling better.
Thanks Marlene, I’m R&R’ing today with hopes of recovery. There are a lot of great restaurants on the island here, we’ve popped in here the odd time, just because it’s fun and filling. I love hashbrowns too….mmmm. Wish I had an appetite, or maybe that’s a good thing…hehehe.
Holy cow! Even on a good day, I could not eat two pancakes of that magnitude! WOW! Did you eat both of them? I love the p-cakes too, but I usually get a ham & cheese omlet!
LOL, got thru 1/2 of one, definitely rib stickers. I figure that was equal to two regular size pancakes. My hubby is the omelette guy, he always like the omelette station at breakfast buffets. I almost think anything taste great when someone else does the cooking. I sure get tired of the taste of my own food. Thanks for popping in Valerie 🙂
Oui délicieux. Hard to improve on ‘the pancake’ they are my go to menu item when I’m really hungry. It’d be fun to make them kitty cat shaped, someone should come up with that. “Monsieur, deux crêpes en forme de chat, s’il vous plaît”…giggle.
I would duplicate your order, but maybe add another pancake :-). Oh, and have the scrambled eggs cooked just a bit longer. I like my eggs scrambled but well done.
Say what? Steven, you’d be mighty full after 3 pancakes, they were giant. Mr B ate the bacon, it was crisped up in the deep fryer..ha, health food city. I love the breakfast menu.
My goodness! Everything around here closes at 11pm – I would love to stay out and have a 3am breakfast!!
