Surprise, I’m sending Christmas greetings from California. After the most brilliant flight with US Air (thanks guys), we’re happily spending a week in warmer climes. We quickly found our way to the ocean, and were happy to see this work in progress.
Isn’t it just fantastic. It took 10 hours to take plain ol’ beach sand and turn it into this work of art.
Just by chance, while we enjoyed the sunshine, this was playing on the stereo 🙂
I need to laugh,
and when the sun is out
I’ve got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I’m in love and it’s a sunny day
Good day sunshine, good day sunshine, good day sunshine
We are such tourists, ha. Coming from the prairies, the ocean amazes us every single time. I love the sounds, the smells, the birds and on this day, his artistic endeavour and the music. The sunshine feels sooooo good. 🙂
I agree Alys, lucky you! If I could take brief liberty with the Beach Boys song…I’d sing “I wish we all could be California Girls”. We biked around today and I was crazy camera lady taking pictures of every garden in site. It’s like Disneyland for me. 🙂
I hear that. The gardens down south are beautiful. How nice to be riding bikes through it all. We rented a four-seater once when the boys were small. It was fun but all too brief.
A four seater bike? What fun. Sounds very nostalgic. Thanks Alys, stay tuned, who know’s what’s coming up on Boomdeeadda….I never do…LOL On a wing and a prayer xoK
Thanks Herman, I’m sure this guy could sculpt Mr Bowie but it’d be hard to capture that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that we’ve all grown to love. Perfection is such an intangeble thing. 🙂
Hey, I thought of you today on a walk around the neighbourhood here on Coronado Island. Someone had fantastic roses blooming along their fence. Amazing what a day of airports and planes rides can do for your psyche. Thanks for the warm wishes Steven.
What? 80 sounds way out of season. Is that the usual? I think it might have been 18C or 19C here today or 66F. Not super duper warm, but hey we just left snow. That’s funny, I’ve never heard it referred to as ‘Left’ coast…I will remember that! Cheers 🙂
It’s Florida. December is a crapshoot. It’s been 66F a few times so far, but it’s been pretty warm lately. As a Florida native, I’m bundled up when it’s under 70. Thin blood. Snowed once when I was a kid (a brief burst of flurries, but that kinda counts). Never been to Cali but I’ve heard that it gets cooler at night due to the desert-ness, and the Pacific is such a big body of water, the water temp stays pretty stable. We live on the Gulf of Mexico which stays warmer since it’s more sheltered and I think the Gulf stream, although that might be on the east side…don’t you love my vague geographical knowledge? haha
Ha, LOL…learning tons. Now practice that in front of a green screen, maybe throw in a howling cat or two and you got yourself an entertaining weather report. You would pretty much perish in Alberta…lets just say ‘Dec 13, 2009 all time coldest temp in Alberta -46.1 add the windchill -58 C or -72 F (Keep in mind that’s a ‘one of in history’) now that’s just inhumane.
If there was a hell, I’m pretty sure mine would be that. I hate being cold more than anything else in the world. Everywhere you go here, people overcompensate for the heat and humidity by keeping the AC on a sub-zero temps. I have to bring a sweatshirt with me. Ridiculous.
Aren’t people just so clever and talented, to do that with sand. Here in South Africa, they do the same but with all the wild animals – amazing lions, etc.
That snow village castle in the sand is so awesome! I love the sand snowman too! That is truly something beautiful to run into while you two are relaxing! What makes your post even cooler, is that while I am viewing it, it is snowing from WordPress on my screen! A nice added touch! 🙂
Thanks Val, you’re right. I didn’t notice that till now..giggle. This fella had out photo albums with some of his other creations, too amazing. I think he just does it for tips. Looked like he was doing ok. Thanks for joining us on the beach. 🙂
Boy oh boy, I wish I was joining you on the beach, as it’s freakin cold here! One of those cold rainy damp chill to the bone kinda cold. Brrrr. Make sure you take some more pictures while you are there!
I hope, I’m battling a nasty cold since we got here. I was determined not to let it slow me down, but I had to give in tonight. Hopefully, it’s a short one. I bet the dampness makes it feel even colder. We don’t get that on the prairies, I feel for you. Stay toasty with your babes!
Oh what fun!!!

I didn’t see the ocean until I was 11 years old. I’ll never forget it. We are so lucky to live near the San Francisco Bay, Monterey and Santa Cruz.

I like the sand sculptures. You have gone from way North of me to way South. Enjoy the warm weather in California.

We’ve had a couple dustings of snow–but nothing that has amounted to anything.
