I’m always looking for fun new ways to use scrapbook paper. On a recent trip to Urban Scrapbook, they had a gift box made of Tim Holtz Kraft-Core, naturally I couldn’t wait to try it. This paper allows you to sand away some of the colour for a vintage or aged look. Which makes Kraft-Core a great choice for your Embossing Folders.
This embossing folder was the perfect size for the pillow box template I’ve use so often. There’s an endless selection of folders for every possible project. First, put your pre-cut paper into the folder, make sure the raised pattern will fall on the right side of your paper.
Run the folder with the paper through a Big Shot or similar tool. It leaves a beautiful raised pattern.
Use a sanding block to lightly sand away colour here and there for a vintage or shabby chic look.
You can see the before & after results are stunning. It’s best to sand lightly, you can always sand a little more if you wish.
Once folded and glued, you’re ready to decorate. Here’s how I decorated mine.
I used the same Bird Die Cut from PoppyStamps Inc on the Aqua Gift Purse the other day. The Banner and Ovals are all die cuts on the Big Shot. The Banner was stamped with ‘My Favorite Things alphabet stamp. I’m loving this stamp set. It has very small characters perfect for the die cut banner.
I love to use my embossing machine + it looks like/-I need to check out your site to explore some new ideas:-) I love texture:-)

Thanks for peeking back to this one. I still have the same big shot and use it on every project. Since I began working at Urban, I’ve collected a fair number of dies and folders. A bit addicted perhaps, but it’s all so fun. Do you have the ‘Big Shot’? Or maybe Cricut? I’m eyeballing the Cameo Machine now, LOL I will consider it an investment in training. So many people are buying them, I need to know all about it for work!

I have the circut( cuttlebug? I think). It is amazing + I just need more time to explore. I did get some new stuff for my machine to explore-so I do understand an addiction to it.FUN!

Just adorable as always. There will be no chocolate here. 😦 I need to drop a lot of weight from the Christmas indulgance. Have a great Valentines day and thanks for the enlightenment. It meant a lot.

Thanks for poppin in Clowie, happy Valentine’s! If I met you up at the Kissing Gate, I’d give you a big hug. It is pretty isn’t it? And surprisingly easy. Santa brought me this Embossing envelope at Christmas and I finally found a project to do 🙂

Hi Heidi! How’s beautiful Portland today? Thanks for your nice message. I can really putz along in the craft room. Maybe if I find a house that needs TLC, I can spend time doing projects like you all are enjoying. BTW, I really loved your new Banner at the Blog. Loved the ‘A’….you are too cool for school my dear!

Thank you again GJ (I’m adopting that name for you, I hope that’s ok). I have had these Embossing folders for a whole year and hardly had used them. So it was fun to see a project at Urban Scrapbook that was just right for them.

That’s amazing – do you ever put your stuff on Etsy?

Thanks Will, never have…I guess you need to buy a commercial usage license from the manufacturer of the products you use to make your items (according to the chicks at the scrappy store). I just like to putz along and surprise friends…hey, I have one more spot open in the ‘Craft It Forward’ ???? I’ve seen them sell artwork at the zoo done by the penguins…the let them walk all over canvas with painted feet….That might be an Eko/Will craft option LOL….Have a great day in Chicago!

A great idea…I have SO much scrapbooking paper from way back in the day when I was a scrapbook alcholic♥ Literally, a whole closet of it…my kids tell me it is waiting for the day I retire…hahaha

You and me both. I have to continually organize to keep it handy, so that I can grab whatever I want to use at any given time. That’s the one way I know I used older stuff. Retirement is the bomb, if I was working, I wouldn’t have as much time for this I’m sure. Like today….gotta go LOL Thanks for commenting Laurie, have a beautiful Valentines Day!
